3. "Franklin Feet"
Ms. Thomas' Kindergarteners joined Alameda-based photographer (and Franklin Parent) Ann Kohler for a fun and creative photo shoot at Franklin Park. We took close ups of hands, feet and faces, and plenty of action shots jumping for joy and whirling on the carousel. We chose "Franklin Feet" as our contribution to the auction because it shows pride at being the newest members of the Franklin community. 5. "Discovery"
This thoughtful quote by Albert Szent-Gyorgyi (Hungarian biochemist, 1937 Nobel Prize for Medicine) was hand lettered onto painted wood blocks by the students. We painted the wood, practiced our penmanship and learned some stylized lettering. Then we put it all together to create this work of art for you.

7. "Up"
Inspired by the movie "UP", this framed piece of art uses cut paper, color and photography. It shows the 2nd grade children of Ms Biwer's class in an illustration of a school floating by colorful balloon power with the children carrying it away. All California 4th graders learn about the California Mission System. Since the students hadn't chosen their missions to research yet, Ms. Collins developed a conceptual mission that contained the classic elements: a bell tower, a cross, archway, trees. Much anxiety came about when the students realized they had one shot at drawing the mission with permanent Sharpie marker, thus teaching them the lesson of "there are no mistakes in art". The children then used watercolors to bring each of their missions to life with dramatic skies, colored walls and lush foliage. It's truly amazing that each of these one-of-a-kind missions was based on the same simple drawing. Special thanks to parent docents Connie Carvalho, Jen Pixton, Gayle Teuscher.
